Purchasing Your First Car? Understand Your Options

If you are purchasing your first car from a showroom or an authorised dealer, then your only concerns really should be whether or not the vehicle is right for you. The showroom assistant should assist with this in some way (even though all they really want to do is to sell you a car.)  However, it is important to take some time to yourself to evaluate what is important. You may want to consider your budget first and foremost, to find out if you are making the right investment in your first vehicle.

If you are, however, purchasing your first car from a foreign used dealer, be clear in your communications as to what type of vehicle you are purchasing, and what specifications are stated in your purchase. Different vehicles can have various components and add-ons that may affect price. It is important to do the proper research for the model that you are interested in, so that you can make an informed decision. This way, you will know for yourself, if you are getting a good deal or not, based on what is expected.

When purchasing a used car from an individual, things tend to get a bit interesting. It is always advised to buy from someone you know and trust. However, if the seller does happen to be a stranger, disregard any detail about the vehicle that is claimed or stated by their advertisement. Instead, go with a trusted mechanic or a friend who knows a lot about cars. It helps to have a second opinion. And before you hand over that cheque, make sure you are fully satisfied with your product, and all insurance and transfer processes are completed.

Safe driving.
